Dr. Basade graduated from VM Medical College, Solapur. Thereafter, he received his M.D. (Paediatrics) in 1992. He was a Junior and Senior Resident in the department of medical and paediatric oncology and in the Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit. Dr. Basade was awarded the International Scientist’s Visiting Fellowship in Haematology / Oncology at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, USA) and a Fellowship at The New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Centre (New York, USA). He was a visiting Fellow at The Royal Marsden NHS Trust Hospital (Sutton, UK) – Europe’s largest bone marrow transplantation centre. He was one among three in the world selected for the Young Medical Oncologist Fellowship of the European Society of Medical Oncology at the Institute Gustavo Rousse (Villejuif, Paris, France).
Dr. Basade was the Head of Department of medical and paediatric oncology at Tata Memorial Centre-Rural Cancer Project and Nargis Dutt Memorial Cancer Hospital, Barshi, where he established the bone marrow transplantation and peripheral stem cell transplantation units. Currently, in addition his association at our hospital, Dr. Basade is an Honorary Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai, where he established the Stem Cell Transplantation unit, and Saifee Hospital, Mumbai. He has performed bone marrow/stem cell transplants in patients from Oman, UAE and Bangladesh, in addition to patients from India.
He has also been a part of many clinical trials, including as a Principal Investigator in phase II / III clinical trials. Currently, he is also pursuing a Ph.D. in Pharmacogenomics in ovarian cancer.
