Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery

Overview

The Department of Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (H.P.B.) Surgery at Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital strives to offer state-of-the-art medical facilities and treatment for all conditions affecting the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and bile ducts, whether benign or cancerous.

Our highly qualified gastroenterologists, an advanced endoscopy team, and a dedicated abdominal radiologist ensure safe and effective treatment. Our focus is on gentle surgical techniques, like laparoscopic and minimal access surgery.

We are also fully equipped for day-care surgery, wherein the selected procedures allow patients to return home the same day. This approach means less post-operative pain, faster recovery, shorter hospital stays, and early rehabilitation.

The Tower

At the Department of H.P.B. Surgery, we have invested in world-class infrastructure and cutting-edge technology to ensure safe and precise care for every patient. Our high-class modular operation theatres are designed for complex and minimally invasive surgeries, supported by expert teams and state-of-the-art liver ICUs for close monitoring and recovery.

For patients needing radiology-guided procedures, our hybrid operation theatres and interventional radiology setups allow us to safely manage even the most complex HPB conditions.

Our diagnostic centre is equipped with CT and MRI scanners, providing specialised and high-resolution imaging of the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts

We use advanced equipment for major abdominal surgery, including:

  • Intra-operative ultrasound (IOUS) for real-time imaging during surgery.
  • Cavitron ultrasonic aspirator and dissector (CUSA) for removing liver tissue with minimal bleeding.
  • Argon plasma coagulator (APC) for controlling bleeding during surgery using a beam of ionized gas.
  • Harmonic scalpel, which cuts and seals tissue with precision using ultrasound energy.
