The Department of Liver Transplant at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital aims to support you and your family every step — from diagnosis through recovery — with safe, compassionate, and expert care. Our team understand the physical and emotional challenges of living with liver failure. We  

Our highly experienced, multidisciplinary team comprises liver transplant specialists, hepatologists, anaesthesiologists, critical care experts, gastroenterologists, psychologists, infectious disease specialists, physiotherapists, dieticians, and more.  

We provide patients with all-inclusive and cost-effective care before and after surgery (post-transplant care). Our clinical transplant coordinators guide you through the transplant process, help you stay informed and prepared, and provide emotional and practical support. Medical social workers can help you navigate any emotional or financial concerns.

The Tower

At the Department of Liver Transplant, we offer a wide range of specialised services to support patients and families through every step of the transplant journey: 

  • Deceased donor liver transplant (cadaveric liver transplant), where liver is received from a donor who has passed away.
  • Living donor liver transplant, where a healthy individual donates a portion of their liver to the patient.
  • Paediatric liver transplant, involving liver transplant procedures for infants and children.
  • Swap transplant, involving paired exchange of donors between families when direct matching is not possible.
  • Dual lobe liver transplant, where two donors provide liver segments for a single recipient.
  • ABO-incompatible (ABM) liver transplant, involving a transplant between a patient and donor with different blood types.
  • Pre-surgical evaluation and consultation
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation, with ongoing support and recovery care after transplant.

  • Transplant coordination: Clinical coordinators guide patients and families through every step of the transplant process.
  • Multidisciplinary transplant review: Every case is evaluated by a team of experts before scheduling surgery.
  • Authorisation committee clearance: Our team helps patients prepare necessary legal and medical documents for transplant approval.
  • Financial counselling and packages: Transplants are offered in packages based on the transplant type and patient selection, with detailed explanation of costs and options by our financial liaison team.
  • Emotional and social support: Medical social workers assist with coping strategies, financial counselling, and documentation.

We care for a wide range of digestive, liver, gallbladder, bile duct, and pancreatic conditions, including: 

  • Liver conditions: Fatty liver, hepatitis (A, B, C, D, E), cirrhosis, drug-induced liver injury, liver failure, liver cancer, liver cysts, abscesses, and genetic liver diseases.
  • Gallbladder problems: Gallstones, gallbladder infections, polyps, cancer, and complications like perforation or fistulas.
  • Bile duct problems: Bile duct stones, narrowing, injury, infections, bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma), and congenital issues like choledochal cysts.
  • Pancreatic diseases: Acute or chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts or cancer, pancreatic stones, pseudocysts, and neuroendocrine tumours.
  • Stomach and intestinal conditions: Ulcers, bleeding varices, blockages, and cancers that affect the digestive tract.
  • Inherited and rare diseases: Wilson’s disease, hemochromatosis, tyrosinemia, Alagille syndrome, and autoimmune or metabolic liver disorders.
  • Complications and others: Jaundice, portal hypertension, trauma-related injuries, transplant rejection, and poisoning-related liver failure.
