Paediatric Cardiac Sciences

Overview

The Department of Paediatric Cardiac Sciences at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital offers advanced, compassionate care for children with heart conditions, many of which are present from birth. Early diagnosis and timely treatment can help children lead healthy, active lives.

Our internationally trained paediatric cardiologists and surgeons specialise in treating the full range of heart conditions in children, including congenital heart defects, abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias), and combined heart-lung conditions. We work closely with paediatric ICU teams, anaesthesiologists, and specially trained nurses to ensure safe care before, during, and after surgery, including complex heart surgeries for newborns and older children

With our dedicated team, child-friendly technology, and personalised care plans, we are committed to protecting your child’s heart health at every step, from diagnosis to recovery

The Tower

Our department, encompassing cardiology and congenital heart surgery, offers the following comprehensive services:

  • Management of transposition of the great arteries
  • Management of complete atrioventricular septal defect
  • Management of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection with severe pulmonary venous obstructions
  • Total correction of Tetralogy of Fallot (before 2 years of age): Early surgical correction of a common cause of “blue baby syndrome” to improve oxygen levels.
  • Posterior Thoracotomy and Mini-Sternotomy for septal defects: Minimally visible, cosmetic surgical approaches to close holes in the heart with reduced scarring.
  • Valve reconstructions and repairs: Restoring the function of abnormal heart valves in children, including complex conditions like congenital mitral valve regurgitation and Ebstein’s anomaly.
  • Percutaneous pulmonary valve replacement: A technique in which the valve is placed between the lungs and heart without surgery.
  • Single-stage unifocalisation: A surgical procedure to create a single unified blood supply in children with blocked lung arteries and abnormal vessels.
The Tower

Our department is equipped with advanced technologies and state-of-the-art infrastructure to provide world-class, child-focused cardiac care in a safe, nurturing environment.

  • Hybrid Labs: Integrated multispecialty testing facilities that allow for accurate diagnosis and seamless cardiac and surgical interventions.
  • Customised Operating Suites: Advanced surgical rooms designed specifically for paediatric cardiac procedures, equipped with cool LED lighting that ensures high visibility without heat during surgery.
  • State-of-the-Art Equipment: Including high-resolution imaging systems and precision monitoring tools for safe, efficient care.
  • Dedicated Paediatric Cardiac ICU Beds: Exclusive, earmarked beds within our paediatric critical care unit enable round-the-clock post-surgical and critical monitoring by trained professionals.
The Tower
  • Complex heart defects: Congenital abnormalities involving multiple structural issues in the heart.
  • Complete AV Canals: A severe heart defect with a large hole in the centre of the heart and abnormal valves between chambers.
  • Total anomalous pulmonary venous connections: A condition where blood vessels from the lungs incorrectly connect to the heart, affecting oxygen flow.
  • Complex transposition of great arteries with coronary artery anomalies: A rare heart defect where the main arteries are reversed and the coronary arteries are also abnormally placed.
  • Ebstein’s anomalies: A rare congenital disability where a valve is malformed and positioned lower than usual, affecting heart function.
  • Anomalous left coronary arteries from the pulmonary artery: A condition where the heart’s main artery for oxygen supply arises from the wrong vessel, reducing oxygen to the heart muscle.
  • Complex pulmonary atresia with major collaterals: A congenital heart defect where the pulmonary valve is absent and abnormal vessels supply the lungs.
  • Aortic interruptions: A severe defect where a part of the aorta is missing or interrupted, disrupting normal blood flow to the body.
