Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Home Care Centres Institute of Cardiac Sciences Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Overview The Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Program at the Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital offers an advanced, non-surgical solution for aortic valve replacement, transforming how heart valve disease is treated. This minimally invasive procedure allows patients to avoid open-heart surgery, resulting in shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, and reduced risk.We have been recognised as Western India’s largest TAVR/TAVI centre, delivering exceptional care with expertise and compassion. We have successfully performed over 200 TAVR/TAVI procedures for patients from across India and overseas. With a commitment to safety and precision, we are proud to offer the safest and best-in-class outcomes for patients requiring heart valve care. Furthermore, we boast the following achievements: four TAVRs successfully performed within 24 hours and TAVR successfully performed on western India’s oldest patient, aged 95 years. We are Western India’s first and largest centre to perform minimally invasive MitraClip™ mitral-valve repair, and the region’s only hospital able to replace all four heart valves without open surgery. Our Services Technology & Infrastructure The TAVR program offers extensive support for patients with disorders of heart valves (aortic, mitral, tricuspid, and pulmonary valves), i.e., thickening/stiffening of the valves, leakage of blood resulting from the valves not closing tightly, or valve malformation.Non-surgical valve repair and replacementTranscatheter valve replacement/implantation: A catheter is inserted into a blood vessel to reach the heart; a replacement valve is placed at the site of the diseased valve (aortic, pulmonary, or mitral valve).MitraClipTM: This device is placed onto the mitral valve via a catheter to stop it from leaking blood; this procedure is a useful option when open-heart surgery cannot be performed.Percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation (PPVI): A replacement valve is placed on the diseased/dysfunctional pulmonary valve via a catheter; this is also a useful option when open-heart surgery cannot be performed.Balloon mitral valvotomy (BMV): Insertion of a catheter with a balloon into the mitral valve through a blood vessel and inflation of the balloon; this widens the mitral valve, improving blood flow.Post-surgery cardiac rehabilitation: We have dedicated cardiac rehabilitation services to help you keep your heart healthy after the procedure.Consultation with dieticians: We also offer dietitian services to assist you in making healthy lifestyle choices. Our dedicated valve clinic nurse coordinator is also available to assist you. Our TAVR program uses advanced 3D echo imaging to optimally determine the condition of the heart prior to the procedure. The program also houses a hybrid catheterisation (cath) lab, which helps doctors perform advanced imaging techniques to move the catheter along the blood vessels, into the heart, and finally, into the diseased aortic valve. After the surgery, our state-of-the-art ICU is equipped with the latest post-surgical monitoring and treatment equipment to provide you with the best patient care.
