Our Services Technology & Infrastructure Conditions We Treat Lung transplant surgery usually takes 6-12 hours, and while the presence of other illnesses may affect recovery, many people can live well with just one healthy lung. Depending on your condition, we offer four types of lung transplants: Double lung transplant, where both lungs are removed and replaced with two lungs from a single donor. This is commonly done for most patients. Single lung transplant, where a single damaged lung (the most damaged) is removed and replaced with a single donated lung. This is indicated in a few select cases. Lobar transplant, where one or two lobes from the donor(s) are transplanted into the recipient. It is often done in children or in certain cases of lung size discrepancies. Combined heart-lung transplant, where the heart and lungs are removed and replaced with a heart and two lungs from a single donor. This is offered in rare, complex conditions involving both organs. The Department of Lung Transplant is equipped with advanced technology to support every stage of care—from diagnosis and surgery to recovery. With cutting-edge operation theatres, specialised lung ICUs, and precision imaging tools, we ensure safe procedures, timely intervention, and better outcomes for our patients. We care for patients with severely damaged and unhealthy lungs who experience breathing difficulties and need continuous oxygen support. When all other treatments have failed and life expectancy is less than two years, a lung transplant may be the best option. We treat the following conditions: Pulmonary Fibrosis: Scarring of the lungs leading to its shrinkage from any cause, including infections (COVID-19, pneumonia), autoimmune disease, or unknown causes.Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD): Damage to the lung airways from smoking, pollution, and other factors.Bronchiectasis: Destruction of the large airways, causing repeated infections.Cystic lung disease: Formation of multiple hollow cavities in the lungs.Pulmonary hypertension: High pressure in the blood vessels of the lungs, straining the heart.
