Paediatric Genetics

Overview

The Department of Paediatric Genetics at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital provides specialised evaluation, diagnosis, and counselling for children with genetic disorders and congenital anomalies. We address both inherited conditions, such as cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease, and muscular dystrophy, as well as congenital (birth) defects with a genetic component, including cleft lip and palate

Our goal is to help families understand genetic conditions and make informed decisions for their child’s care and future. By integrating advanced genetic testing with expert clinical evaluation, we deliver personalised insights into your child’s health, growth, and development.

We evaluate and support children with a variety of genetic and congenital conditions, such as:

  • Cystic fibrosis: A genetic disorder that affects the lungs and digestive system due to thick, sticky mucus build-up.
  • Sickle cell disease: An inherited blood disorder where red blood cells become misshapen, causing pain, anaemia, and other complications.
  • Muscular dystrophy: A group of genetic conditions that cause progressive muscle weakness and loss of muscle mass.
  • Cleft lip and palate: A congenital condition where the upper lip and/or roof of the mouth doesn’t fully develop, affecting feeding, speech, and appearance.
  • Other single-gene and chromosomal disorders.
