The department offers treatment for a number of spine conditions including Low back pain, disc disease, Lumbar canal stenosis, Disc herniation, Spondylolisthesis, Osteoporosis, Spinal Trauma, Spinal Cord injury, Infections (including Tuberculosis), Tumours and Metastases and Deformity (e.g. Scoliosis) of the spine.

Our department offers the following sub-speciality services:

  • Microdiscectomy: A keyhole procedure that removes the small disc fragment pressing on a spinal nerve to relieve leg or arm pain.
  • Laminectomy: Surgical removal of the bone roof (lamina) to enlarge the spinal canal and ease pressure on the spinal cord or nerves.
  • Lumbar Fusion: Joins two or more lower-back vertebrae with bone grafts and implants to stop painful motion at an unstable segment.
  • Instrumented Spinal Reconstruction: Realigns and stabilises complex spinal deformities using rods, screws, and cages for long-term support.
  • Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery: Treats spine problems through small incisions with specialised tubes or endoscopes, reducing muscle damage and recovery time.
  • Endoscopic Spine Surgery: A camera-guided endoscope uses a tiny incision to remove disc herniations or bone spurs with minimal soft-tissue disruption.
  • Craniovertebral Spine Surgery: Addresses instability or compression where the skull meets the upper cervical spine, often using screws and rods for fixation.
  • Revision Spinal Surgery: Performs corrective operations on patients with failed or recurrent problems after previous spine procedures.
  • Total Disc Replacement: Substitutes a worn spinal disc with an artificial one to preserve motion and avoid fusion.
  • Motion-Preserving Spine Surgery: Employs devices (e.g., disc arthroplasty, dynamic stabilisers) that treat pain while maintaining natural spinal movement.
  • Vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty: Inject medical cementsometimes after balloon expansioninto fractured vertebrae to relieve pain and restore height.
  • Image-Guided Interventional Spinal Procedures (e.g., Epidural Injections): Deliver targeted medication to inflamed nerves under X-ray or ultrasound guidance for pain relief.
  • Non-Operative Care for Spinal Deformities (Bracing, Casting): Uses customised external supports to slow or correct curves in growing spines without surgery.
  • Spinal Rehabilitation: Structured physiotherapy and conditioning programmes that rebuild strength, flexibility, and posture to restore spine function and prevent recurrence.

We have specially designed clinics to support the unique health needs.

  • Back Pain Clinic with focus on holistic management of back and neck pain without surgery
  • Scoliosis Clinic for treatment of patients with Spinal deformities.
