Dr. Balkrishna Padate is a renowned haematologist with extensive experience in Clinical Haematology, Haemato-Oncology, and BMT. Over the past two decades, he has held key leadership roles in prominent hospitals in India and the United Kingdom, where he has combined his clinical expertise with a compassionate approach to patient care.
He completed his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) at The Royal College of Pathologist in Haematology in London, UK, in 2011. He earned his FRCPath (Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists) in 2009. In 2024, he was awarded the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians at Glasgow. Dr. Ashutosh Kothari is an internationally renowned, comprehensively trained, certified and accomplished Onco-Surgeon, who has focussed purely on breast cancer, oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery and benign breast disease.
Dr. Kothari completed his super-speciality training in surgical oncology at the prestigious Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India. He then moved to London and joined the Hedley Atkins Breast Unit, Guys & St. Thomas Hospital, the World’s first dedicated stand-alone breast cancer unit. He trained thereunder the renowned Prof. Ian Fentiman and was subsequently appointed as a permanent member of staff.
Dr. Kothari is an advocate for early detection, he played a pivotal role in establishing the enhanced, rapid access, one-stop comprehensive breast care clinic, in the public healthcare sector, in the UK. This allowed women with breast symptoms to be diagnosed in under 2–3 hours. His work in this area was recognised globally, and BreastCare Magazine recognised his efforts as World Leader in the field. He was instrumental in setting up one of the first multi-disciplinary oncoplastic breast clinics in conjunction with the plastic surgeons, ensuring that patients received individualised, holistic, surgical advice. He also introduced LYMPHA surgery at Guy’s Hospital for the prevention of lymphoedema, significantly reducing its incidence. Dr. Kothari has one of the largest experiences of immediate whole breast reconstructions in Europe and has excellent long-term aesthetic results and his complication rates are one of the lowest in Europe. His dissertation project was undertaken in ‘Understanding the role of extracellular matrix proteins in the pathogenesis of brain tumours in mice’ that involved benchwork dissection of gene knock-out mice brains, cryosectioning, LacZ reporter gene expression, fluorescent microscopy, and histological procedures.
During his DM, he gained extensive experience in surgical oncopathology, immunohistochemistry, cytopathology, intra-operative consultations, and molecular pathology. Dr. Sharma actively involved in diagnostic, administrative, research and academic activities at the Molecular Pathology Laboratory in TMH.
He is strongly committed to cancer patient health care, pathology education and cancer research.
