Thoracic Surgical Oncology

Overview

Our thoracic surgical oncology team offers minimally invasive treatments for lung and oesophageal cancers, prioritising respiratory function and post-surgical well-being.

The Tower
  • VATS and robotic lung surgery
  • Esophagectomy with oesophageal reconstruction
  • Airway surgery and lung transplantation

  • Specialised services
    • Navigational bronchoscopy for early lung cancer diagnosis.
    • Lung transplantation and airway reconstruction

  • Minimally invasive and robotic surgeries
    • Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS): Minimally invasive surgery performed via small incisions in the chest to treat lung cancer; this promotes the preservation of lung function.
    • Robotic lobectomy: Minimally invasive robotic system-guided surgery performed via small incisions in the chest to remove a lobe of the lung; this reduces the duration of hospital stay and promotes quicker recovery.
    • Esophagectomy with reconstruction: The complete or partial removal of the oesophagus and the reconstruction/repair of the digestive tract; this ensures proper swallowing function post-surgery.
    • Tracheal reconstruction: A surgical procedure involving the repair of the trachea (wind pipe); this helps restore airway integrity with minimal discomfort.
  • Persistent coughing or breathlessness should be evaluated early.
  • Smoking cessation significantly reduces lung cancer risk.
  • Post-surgical breathing exercises aid in faster recovery.
