Bio:

Dr. Nikhilesh Borkar is the Additional Director at the Department of Surgical Oncology at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre.

He graduated from Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, MUHS. He received his M.S. (General Surgery) from T.N. Medical College and B.Y.L. Nair Hospital. Thereafter, Dr. Borkar worked as a senior registrar and also cleared his MRCS exam subsequently. He received his M.Ch. (Surgical Oncology) from Tata Memorial Hospital and Cancer Research Institute. Dr. Borkar has also received his D.N.B. in both General Surgery and Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Borkar was conferred the Fellowship of the European Board of Surgery in surgical oncology as well as breast surgery. He has received an ECFMG Certification, after clearing the USMLE, and later completed a rigorous 2-year GOLF Fellowship in head and neck surgery offered by the IFHNOS and MSKCC, New York, USA, under Dr. Jatin Shah and Dr. Ashok Saha, with whom he also did an Observership. Dr. Borkar is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS). He was also conferred the FAIS, FMAS and the FIAGES fellowships and the MNAMS.

He worked as an associate consultant at P. D. Hinduja National Hospital, Mahim, where he received training in head and neck surgery and breast surgery. He was also a Visiting Consultant at Kohinoor Hospital, Mumbai. He later worked as a Senior Clinical Fellow in the Cambridge Breast Unit at the Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, UK, where he received comprehensive training in breast surgery and advanced oncoplastic techniques like chest wall perforator flaps and ADM-assisted implants and DIEP flap reconstructions.

Dr. Borkar is a member of the ESSO, IASO, ISO, ABSI, FHNO, and ABS. He graduated with 4 distinctions and was a topper in Medicine. A 2nd rank holder in his M.S. (General Surgery), he was also a recipient of the Best Resident Award. Dr. Borkar has been part of various research projects, including multicentre trials. His research while at Tata Memorial Hospital was on the intraoperative analysis of the bone for mandibulectomy and that at Cambridge was on the avoidance of chemotherapy in hormone receptor-positive breast cancers. He has attended many national and international conferences.
