Bio:

Dr. Mehul Shah is the Chief Intensivist at the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre. He has been internationally trained and is the Head of Surgical ICU, with over two and a half decades of experience  in critical care medicine. His academic journey includes advanced training in critical care at renowned institutions such as Tata Memorial Centre, Bombay Hospital Institute, and Jaslok Hospital, further honing his expertise in managing critically ill patients. Dr. Shah has undertaken observerships and specialised short courses across leading international centres in Singapore and Italy (among others), refining his skills in state-of-the-art ICU management. 

Dr. Shah has led critical care teams in various specialties, including trauma, transplant, oncology, neurocritical care, and cardiovascular intensive care. His expertise in advanced life support technologies such as ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), ventricular assist devices, and renal replacement therapy has made him a leader in critical care innovation. With a strong academic foundation and global exposure, Dr. Shah brings best practices from top-tier institutions worldwide to his clinical work, impacting the field of critical care in India. 

Clinical Contributions 

  • Leads the Surgical ICU, ensuring evidence-based, multidisciplinary care.
  • Oversees the Tele-ICU Programme, managing 100 ICU beds nationwide and providing expert intensivist support to remote and underserved areas.
  • Certified Instructor for Advanced and Basic Cardiac Life Support (AHA-certified) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ACS-certified), training over 1,000 doctors in BLS across hospitals and communities.
  • Actively involved in organ donation programmes, enhancing transplant success rates through critical care interventions. 

Research and Academic Excellence 

  • Principal Investigator for multicentric national studies and has contributed to over 20 national and international trials.
  • Published over 10 original research papers, including case reports, series, single-centre studies, and large-scale national research projects.
  • Contributed to 5 book chapters, sharing insights in critical care advancements.
  • Delivered over 100 lectures at national and international conferences, serving as an expert panellist and educator.
