Bio:

Dr. Biswa Ranjan Patra is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Advanced Endoscopist at the Institute of Gastrosciences, Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital.

He holds an M.D. in Medicine from PGIMER & Dr. RML Hospital, New Delhi, and a D.M. in Gastroenterology from Seth GS Medical College & KEM Hospital, Mumbai. He further honed his expertise with advanced training in third-space endoscopy in Japan. Subsequently, he had worked at KEM Hospital as Assistant Professor for 4 years and was heading the endoscopy division. He started and developed the entire third space endoscopy program at KEM Hospital, making it one of the highest-volume centers in India. He also started an early esophageal and gastric cancer screening program for high-risk patients.

Dr. Patra specializes in performing endoscopic resections for early tumors (EMR, ESD, STER, and EFTR) and has extensive experience in various third-space endoscopic procedures (POEM-E/G/D/C/Z). He is highly proficient in therapeutic EUS procedures (EUS-GJ, BD, CG, and GV coiling). Dr. Patra has also described multiple innovative EUS-guided liver biopsy techniques. He has worked extensively on refractory gastrointestinal fistulas, creating new closure techniques that have been published and awarded at various national and international forums.

His contributions to advancing the field of gastroenterology and endoscopy are widely recognized, and he actively trains gastroenterologists across India in advanced procedures. He has contributed to several national and international publications.
