Bio:

Dr. Ashutosh Kothari is a Consultant at the Department of Surgical Oncology, Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre. He is an internationally renowned, comprehensively trained, certified and accomplished Onco-Surgeon, who has focussed purely on breast cancer, oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery, and benign breast disease. His certifications include CEBS (European board certification in Breast Surgery and FEBS (Super-speciality European certification in Breast Surgery and General Surgical Oncology).

Dr. Kothari trained at Hedley Atkins Breast Unit, Guys & St. Thomas Hospital—World’s first dedicated stand-alone breast cancer unit— with the renowned Prof. Ian Fentiman and was subsequently appointed as a permanent member of staff.

Dr. Kothari is an advocate for early detection, he played a pivotal role in establishing the enhanced, rapid access, one-stop Comprehensive Breast Care Clinic, in the public healthcare sector, in the UK. This allowed women with breast symptoms to be diagnosed in under 2–3 hours. His work in this area has been recognised globally, and BreastCare Magazine recognised him as a World Leader in the field. He was instrumental in setting up one of the first multidisciplinary Oncoplastic Breast Clinics with plastic surgeons, ensuring that patients received individualised, holistic, surgical advice. He also introduced LYMPHA surgery at Guy’s Hospital for the prevention of lymphoedema, significantly reducing its incidence. The data have been successfully published in a high-impact international medical journal in 2023.

Dr. Kothari is among the most experienced surgeons in immediate whole breast reconstruction in Europe, with outstanding long-term aesthetic outcomes and some of the lowest complication rates in the region. He is an Adviser and Key Opinion Leader for several breast implant and medical device manufacturing companies. Through this partnership with the industry, Dr. Kothari has worked with international corporations to develop—and continues to develop—several state-of-the-art products to help simplify breast reconstruction with a focus on tissue engineering and artificial intelligence.

Dr. Kothari is a core faculty and is frequently invited to teach and lecture at several international symposia, masterclasses, and breast and aesthetic surgery cancer conferences across the world.

He has been—and continues to be—a Principal/Chief Investigator in several first-in-man and international multicentre breast cancer trials. He has published over 50 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and has contributed to several international textbooks on breast cancer surgery and treatment.
