Dr. Arun B. Shah is the Director, Department of Neurosciences, Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre. Dr. Shah also leads the Comprehensive Stroke Centre and offers holistic care to patients consulting at Multiple Sclerosis and Memory Clinics.
Dr. Shah completed his M.B.B.S. at the prestigious Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai in 1972. He was awarded several gold medals by the University of Bombay for securing the first rank (October 1972). Later on, Dr. Shah pursued M.D. in Internal Medicine and D.M. in Neurology at the same institution.
After his training, Dr. Shah undertook a Fellowship in Cerebrovascular Disease and Stroke at the Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland, Oregon, USA, where he also served as an Instructor in Neurology. He participated in various research projects involving acute stroke therapy and investigated the role of platelet activation in different subtypes of ischaemic stroke. This work was presented at the International Conference on Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease in 1984.
Dr. Shah was the first Neurologist in Mumbai to use Reperfusion Therapy for acute stroke in 2002. He presented his data on ‘Thrombolytic Therapy of Acute Stroke in India’ at the World Congress of Neurology held in Sydney, Australia in 2006. Dr. Shah is actively involved in clinical research pertaining to stroke, dementia, and Parkinson’s disease, and has delivered several lectures on these topics.
Dr. Shah has served as the Professor and Head of the Department of Neurology and currently holds the title of Emeritus Professor at the Department of Neurology at the Topiwala National Medical College & Nair Hospital, Mumbai.
At Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre. Dr. Shah also works as a Postgraduate Teacher.
