Dr. Viraj Tambwekar is a senior plastic surgeon with 25 years of experience as a consultant in Mumbai.
He acquired his General Surgery degree from Bombay University and his Plastic Surgery degree from the National Board of Examination.
He is known for his expertise and knowledge in plastic surgery. He demonstrates an exemplary bedside manner and is compassionate with his patients.
His approach to practice is patient centric and he constantly updates his skills as per current best practice standards, focused on the patients’ goals.
His special interest is aesthetic plastic surgery (breast, body contouring and facial rejuvenation in particular), hand surgery and management of complex wounds.
He trained in plastic surgery at the prestigious KEM hospital, Mumbai; and then in microsurgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Linkou, Taipei, Taiwan.
Aesthetic surgery training was acquired from experts in the field by working at their centers in USA, Europe, UK, Turkey, Singapore and Hong Kong.
He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) and the World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery (WSRM).
He is a past member of the membership committee of the board of ISAPS.
He is a full member of the APSI, IAAPS, AAPS, ISCLP&A, ISRM, ISSH, MAPS & AAPS which are national and regional bodies of plastic surgery as a whole and specialties within.
He has been organizing chair of ISRM and APSI conferences and scientific chair for the 2020 and 2023 IAAPS conferences and is the scientific co-chair for the upcoming IAAPS meeting in 2026.
He is a reviewer for the IJPS. (Indian Journal of Plastic Surgery)
He has presented and published papers in national and international conferences and gets invited to speak and conduct workshops at various conferences regularly.
